Henry Chapman Mercer was an archaeologist, tool collector, tile-maker, and designer of three distinctive buildings made of poured concrete. He built a museum to house his artifacts and tiles, the Mercer Museum, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania in 1916. He also moved and preserved an original 19th century log cabin to the museum property. Henry’s constant companion was his Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Rollo. In "Follow Rollo through the Museum" the reader is led through the nooks and crannies of Mercer's remarkable repository of pre-industrial age hand tools. See how people worked with tools before the age of machines and electricity. Written for ages 6 and up. Read more
